Center Policies

Authorship

Co-authorship is requested when Center personnel have made significant contributions to research in the form of consultation, experimental design, data analysis or other material assistance. In such cases, Center personnel request an opportunity to review and edit appropriate sections of manuscripts before submission. Co-authorship should be considered where the bioinformatics component of a joint research effort is substantial, regardless of the project's financial contributions to the Center for Bioinformatics budget. Co-authorship implies that we can stand for the methodology and results of the analysis, assist in writing the methods and possibly other parts of the manuscript, and respond to reviewers comments on the bioinformatics aspects of the paper.

Acknowledgements. Please include acknowledgement of the CSU Center for Bioinformatics in relevant scientific publications. This is necessary for reporting of Center activities to internal and external funding agencies.

Please inform us when relevant publications are accepted and/or grants are awarded. This information is vital for continued support of the Center.

Collaborations

Collaborative projects with Center personnel are highly encouraged. Special pricing structures are in place for collaborations that involve salary support of Center personnel. Principal investigators can include support for bioinformatics co-investigators on a %FTE basis similar to that of new grant applications.

Mini-Grants

Individuals without support to cover bioinformatics needs are encouraged to apply for a Mini-grant through the Center for Bioinformatics. Mini-Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis. The grants can cover up to a maximum of 16 hours of consultation.

Further information about Mini-Grants can be discussed at the time of initial consultation.

New Grant Applications

Investigators planning to include bioinformatics support in their research projects are encouraged to budget a %FTE of Center staff in addition to any computing costs in their grant applications. This can be accomplished either by listing a bioinformaticist as a co-investigator or as a consultant in the grant application. Minimum participation for R01 and R21 applications is 1 month salary (7.5% effort). Minim participation for smaller local grants includes a negotiable consulting fee.
